Makyong, the first showcase for Panggung Rakyat
Every journey begins with a first step, the first performance of Panggung Rakyat in the line-up also begins with one of the most historically important and authentic art forms to Malaysia – Makyong.
This ancient theatre form created by the Malay communities in Northwest Malaysia is a dance drama performance.
Besides, the dance is recognised by UNESCO as a Representative in the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Makyong is known as an art form that requires long years of rigorous training and is only passed through oral transmission.
With more than 400 years of history, the art is now on a serious decline.
