The local stand-up comedian Douglas Lim
Douglas, who will be playing Mr Wong, the Kopitiam owner in the upcoming production, first round fame following his stint in the local English sitcom Kopitiam, which premiered on ntv7 in 1998.
Fast-forward two decades later, he has solidified his place as a well-known stand-up comedian in Malaysia having performed shows such as “Eh, Got Free Ticket Ah?” at Actors Studio Bangsar, Comedy Club in KL, Penang and Singapore and Harith Iskander’s Nationwide Tour, PJ Laugh Festival.
As a veteran in the entertainment space, he has made on screen and stage performances in widely known productions such as Run Run Shaw in Enfiniti’s P.Ramlee The Musical.
He is also an accomplished lyricist and composer having written scores for productions such as Reality, Ghost, Cuci the Musical and won an award for Best Original Score for Kopitiam at the Malaysian Video Awards in 1998.
“I was so excited when Tiara told me about her vision for OlaBola The Musical and immediately felt the need to be part of this one-of-a-kind production. Though I’ve been in the industry for over two decades, I still find myself learning and growing as a performer and working with such a young and dynamic cast has definitely taught me a few new tricks. Having performed both on screen and on stage, I’d say that the theatre is definitely more challenging as it involves many moving parts and there are no opportunities for re-takes. The audience will be absolutely blown away by the sheer scale and magnitude of this production and we can’t wait to stage it,” said Douglas.
West End star and famed choreographer Stephen Rahman-Hughes
Triple threat West End star Stephen, who is will be playing Coach Harry Mountain, is no stranger to Malaysian theatre having played one of his most memorable roles as Hang Tuah in Enfiniti’s award-winning Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical and a few years later played Merong in local epic action film Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa.
Having trained at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, he has since established his status as multi-award winning choreographer having danced at the Royal Opera House and La Scala in Milan.
With his many years of dance experience, Stephen was also announced as the Special Movement Director back in September where he plays an integral role in conceptualising the choreography and football sequence.
“Joining forces with the team at Enfiniti came as a no brainer. Having worked with Tiara and the team before, OlaBola The Musical will be a very unique production that I feel will help raise the standard of the performing arts industry in Malaysia.
To be holding two very important roles in this production, I’m incredibly humbled and honoured to be apart of this exciting journey and can’t wait to show the crowd what we’ve got,” said Stephen.
Directed by award-winning producer, actress and performing arts advocate Tiara Jacquelina, OlaBola The Musical is Enfiniti’s latest original production following the success of Puteri Gunung Ledang, P.Ramlee The Musical and MUD: The Story of Kuala Lumpur.
OlaBola The musical has been chosen to re-open the newly renovated Istana Budaya from 8th February until 11th March 2018.
